US President Joe Biden issued a statement following the “apparent assassination attempt” on former President Donald Trump at his property in West Palm Beach, Florida. Biden said he was relieved that Trump was safe and had directed his team to ensure the former president’s safety.
“I have been briefed by my team regarding what federal law enforcement is investigating as a possible assassination attempt of former President Trump today.A suspect is in custody, and I commend the work of the Secret Service and their law enforcement partners for their vigilance and their efforts to keep the former President and those around him safe. I am relieved that the former President is unharmed,” Biden said, as per the statement released by the White House.

“There is an active investigation into this incident as law enforcement gathers more details about what happened. As I have said many times, there is no place for political violence or any violence ever in our country, and I have directed my team to continue to ensure that the Secret Service has every resource, capability, and protective measure necessary to ensure the former President’s continued safety,” White House added.
The shooting occurred at Trump’s golf course, where he was spending a day off from his presidential campaign. According to Trump’s campaign, “President Trump is safe following gunshots in his vicinity. No further details at this time.”
Federal bureau of investigation (FBI) said that the attack appears to be an assassination attempt on Donald Trump, the second time in two months there’s been an apparent attempt on the former president’s life, CNN reported.
A man who authorities said targeted the former president has been taken into custody with an AK-47-style weapon.
The White House confirmed that both President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were briefed on the incident and expressed relief at Trump’s safety. “They are relieved to know that he is safe,” the White House statement said.
The shooting comes amidst increased concern for the safety of political figures, following a previous incident on July 13 when Trump was wounded at a rally in Pennsylvania. The Secret Service, which faced criticism and leadership changes after that event, is now investigating this latest incident.
