Madras Medical Mission launches AI-powered centre for cardiac care

The Madras Medical Mission (MMM) on Friday launched the Centre for Advanced Structural, Endovascular, and Congenital Adult Heart Defects (CASCADE) on Friday. It was inaugurated by John K. John, chairman of Johnson Lifts Private Ltd, in the presence of K. Jacob, honorary secretary of MMM.

K. Sivakumar, director of paediatric cardiology at MMM, stressed the need for specialised interventions for congenital heart diseases. “Many patients require intricate procedures, such as device closures, stent angioplasty, and percutaneous valve implantations, which demand extreme precision and specialised technology. This advanced treatment can help them,” he said.

CASCADE’s cardiac catheterisation lab features artificial intelligence (AI)-integrated imaging, ‘Tru-fusion’ technology that combines 3D echocardiography and fluoroscopy, CT/MRI integration for accurate device placement, and real-time 3D imaging through cone-beam CT. The facility also includes advanced echocardiography, CT systems, and virtual reality software for pre-procedure planning.

Mullasari Ajit S., chairman of the cardiology division at MMM, said innovations such as these allowed for minimally invasive treatments. “This provides alternatives for high-risk patients who may not be suited for open-heart surgery,” he said.

K. Latchumanadhas, director of the cardiac catheterisation lab, said: “With AI-backed imaging and our dedicated heart teams, we aim to enhance the safety and precision of high-risk procedures.”
