Punjab continues to reel under the impact of its worst floods in nearly four decades, with Gurdaspur and Amritsar among the most severely affected districts. Over 1,000 villages are inundated, tens of thousands of hectares of farmland are underwater, and more than a million people are displaced as heavy monsoon rains and dam overflows batter the region.
Amid this crisis, Diljit Dosanjh has stepped in to adopt 10 flood-hit villages via Saanjh Foundation—five each in Gurdaspur and Amritsar. The foundation is working closely with local NGOs and district administrations to coordinate immediate relief and long-term rehabilitation.
As part of phase one, Dosanjh’s team is already distributing essentials such as solar lights, tarpaulins, and medicines to families in the worst-hit villages. Phase two will begin once the floodwaters recede, with a detailed assessment of the most deeply impacted areas guiding the next wave of targeted support. Beyond immediate relief, the Saanjh Foundation has also outlined a long-term rebuilding plan focused on restoring homes, reviving livelihoods, caring for livestock, and ensuring sustainable rehabilitation for the affected communities.
Teams from the foundation, including Dosanjh’s manager Sonali Singh, are currently on the ground distributing essentials.
Across Punjab, rescue and relief operations are ongoing. The Army, NDRF, and local volunteers are evacuating stranded families, while temporary shelters provide food, medicines, and fodder for livestock. Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has pledged compensation for every affected household and ordered a special girdawari (damage assessment) to fast-track support.
Alongside Dosanjh, many Punjabi artists are stepping up to support flood relief. Karan Aujla has donated motorboats to aid rescue operations, while singers including Jasbir Jassi, Guru Randhawa, Sartaj, Talwiinder, Resham Anmol, and Jass Bajwa, as well as actor Love Gill, are contributing by sending supplies, sharing vital information, and assisting with on-ground efforts.
