At the time when Hema got married to Dharmendra, she had many suitors – from Sanjeev Kumar and Jeetendra who wanted to marry her. However, the ‘Dream Girl’ got married to Dharmendra after turning them down.
In her biography,’Hema Malini: Beyond the Dream Girl’, written by journalist-filmmaker Ram Kamal Mukherjee, the actress had revealed she never went to Dharmendra’s house or she never met his first wife after their wedding.She may have met her earlier at some social events but that was before she got married to Dharmendra. The duo have never met since they got married.
Revealing the reason for it, the actress had said, “I didn’t want to disturb anyone. I am happy with whatever Dharamji did for me and my daughters. He played the role of a father, like any father would do. I guess I am happy with that. Today I am a working woman and I have been able to maintain my dignity because I have devoted my life to art and culture.”
She also added that she has a lot of respect for Prakash Kaur. “Though I have never spoken about Prakash, I respect her a lot. Even my daughters respect Dharamji’s family. The world wants to know about my life in detail, but that is not for others to know. It’s no one’s business.”
