Earlier this month, organizers canceled Taylor Swift’s three concerts in Vienna due to terrorist threats. Around the same time, authorities arrested two suspects linked to the threats, followed by the arrest of a third individual.At the Intelligence and National Security Summit, CIA Deputy Director David S. Cohen disclosed that the agency had identified four ISIS-linked individuals plotting an attack on Taylor Swift’s concert. He emphasized that the plan aimed to kill “tens of thousands” of people.
According to The New York Times, Cohen stated, “They were plotting to kill tens of thousands of people at this concert, likely including many Americans. The arrests were made thanks to information provided by the agency and our intelligence partners about the ISIS-connected group’s plans.”
The newspaper reported that around 200,000 people were expected to attend Taylor Swift’s concerts in Vienna. Although Cohen did not specify how the CIA obtained details about the plot, he confirmed that the attackers’ intent was to target Swift’s Eras Tour concerts and cause significant casualties.

Separately, The Times reported that some of those arrested were found with bomb-making materials and had access to the concert venue. According to the newspaper, the main suspect is a 19-year-old Austrian citizen of North Macedonian descent who had radicalized himself online and pledged allegiance to ISIS.
