If the year 2023 belonged to Shah Rukh Khan courtesy three big releases in Jawan, Pathaan and Dunki, then 2024 will be ruled by Ajay Devgn as he has six releases this year. His first release of the year is Shaitaan – which is a Hindi remake of Gujarati film ‘Vash’. The film also features R Madhavan, Jyotika, and Janki Bodiwala, with Janki reprising her role from the original film.
‘Shaitaan’, which opened on Maha Shivratri, began its day with an advance booking of Rs 4.13 crore, showing a near 100 percent jump on Thursday numbers, which was Rs 2.03 crore. It added nearly Rs 2.11 crore in just 24 hours, which leads to the film having a very strong opening on Monday. In fact the number of shows have also jumped from 9,235 to 11,847 which is the testament of how much the exhibitors are looking forward to the film. ‘Shaitaan’ is carrying better numbers than Ajay’s last film ‘Bholaa‘, which was the Hindi remake of ‘Kaithi’. ‘Bhola’ carried an advance booking of Rs 2.3 crore on the day of its opening.
‘Shaitaan’ is a supernatural horror thriller which has been certified with a UA certificate. A lot depends on the film as except for ‘Drishyam 2’, past few films of Ajay like ‘Bholaa’, ‘Thank God’ and ‘Runway 35’ have tanked at the box office.
Besides Shaitaan, Ajay’s releases this year include ‘Maidaan’, ‘Auron Mein Kaha Dum Tha’, ‘Raid 2’, ‘Singham Again’ and an untitled film directed by Abhishek Kapoor, which marks the debut of his nephew Aaman Devgan and Raveena Tandon’s daughter Rasha.
