On Friday afternoon, the keenly awaited National Awards were announced and the South cinema took home the lion’s share, while Hindi cinema also managed to win a few. Pritam won Best Music Director for Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva while Vishal Bharadwaj won for Best Music Director for his short feature Fursat.
Reacting to the recognition, Vishal Bharadwaj said in a statement,”I am deeply happy to get my 9th national award.It’s the biggest award of our country. The only one that truly matters. And winning this is the greatest validation of my work! Thank you Jury for this. Now I need to strive for a double digit.”
While enjoying his win Pritam told ETimes, “Thank you, Jury. Thank you to the makers and everyone associated with Brahmastra Part 1 Shiva and big thank you to the audience for all their love.” It is also a double whammy for Pritam as his protegee and one of the best singers of current generation, Arijit Singh, also won the National Award for Best Singer for the song Kesariya from Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva. Interestingly, the music for the national award winning song was also composed by Pritam.
Brahmastra also won the National award for Best VFX.
