“Please Take Strict Action”: Couple Finds Dead Cockroach In Vande Bharat Food, Railways Reacts

Vande Bharat has once again caught the Internet’s attention over the quality of food being served to their passengers. An X user, whose relatives were travelling from Bhopal to Agra, shared a picture of the meal served on the express train. It shows a dead cockroach in dal. Sharing the post, Vidit Varshney also tagged the official X (formerly Twitter) pages of Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Ministry of Railways, and IRCTC, urging them to “take strict action.” The note attached to the pic read, “Today on 18-06-24 my Uncle and Aunt were travelling from Bhopal to Agra in Vande Bharat. They got ‘cockroach’ in their food from @IRCTCofficial. Please take strict action against the vendor and make sure this would not happen again @RailMinIndia @ AshwiniVaishnaw @RailwaySe.”

The official page of IRCTC was quick to acknowledge the post in the comments section. IRCTC claimed that the responsible vendor had been penalised with a serious penalty. It said, “Sir, We apologise for the travel experience you had. The matter has been viewed seriously and a suitable penalty has been imposed on the concerned service provider. We have also intensified the production and logistics monitoring.”

This isn’t the first time that such an incident has taken place. Earlier, a passenger travelling in Vande Bharat from Dehradun to Agra was served “fungus” infested curd with his meal. The passenger, Harshad Topkar, shared three pictures of his meal on X (formerly Twitter). The pictures show a packed juice box kept next to half-eaten poori, ketchup sachets and a few packed dishes. In the picture, we can also see a tub of mango-flavoured yoghurt with a greenish-white lump sitting on top of it. Sharing the pictures, Harshad wrote, “Travelling to Vande Bharat from Dehradun to Anand Vihar in the executive class today. Found a greenish layer most probably fungus in the Amul yoghurt served. This is not expected from the Vande Bharat service.”

Once again IRCTC apologised for the incident in the comments section. They wrote, “Sir, our sincere apology for the inconvenience caused. The matter was immediately attended to by the onboard supervisor who replaced the curd immediately. Further, the curd pack was within the expiry date. The issue is being raised with the manufacturer.”
