Punjab Kings is yet to fully adopt Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium as its home. The team has only registered two wins from seven games it has played here in the IPL. The Shreyas Iyer-led side will hope to improve its home record when it hosts Kolkata Knight Riders on Tuesday.
Punjab has started the season well with three wins from five games but would hope to sort out its bowling woes. With an injured Lockie Ferguson unavailable, Punjab will make at least one change in the eleven.
The bowlers have conceded runs throughout the innings, including the experienced Yuzvendra Chahal. Having bowled most of his overs in the second half of the innings, Iyer could bring the leg-spinner early, starting this game.
PBKS has tried to balance its lackluster bowling with aggressive batting, which has worked so far. The top three – Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh, and Shreyas Iyer – have consistently provided a solid platform, helping Punjab post competitive totals.
How the Kings’ batters perform against KKR’s spinners could steer the way this game might go. Sunil Narine and Varun Chakaravarthy have been tough to hit and are coming into this game on the high of a dominating performance against Chennai Super Kings. Pace bowlers Vaibhav Arora and Harshit Rana have done the support act right, extracting swing and bounce with the new ball.
Kolkata’s batters will aim to maintain a high scoring rate through the middle overs, and Punjab’s out-of-form spin attack could offer them the perfect opportunity to do so.
