Park Min-young’s next drama is a Korean twist on the popular Japanese crime and comedy-drama The Confidence Man JP, titled The Confidence Man KR.
Set in a world of deception, the original story follows Dako (Masami Nagasawa), a master manipulator and con artist. Along with her trusted partners, Boku-chan (Masahiro Higashide), a soft-spoken yet skilled young swindler, and Richard (Fumiyo Kohinata), a veteran operative in the scam world, Dako conducts daring operations. She uses her remarkable skills of mimicry and deception to con—but only the corrupt and powerful.
In the Korean remake, scripted by Hong Seung-hyun and directed by Nam Ki-hoon, Park Min-young plays Yoon Yi-rang, an expert grifter, with Joo Jung-hyuk and Park Hee-soon rounding out the cast in key roles.
The Confidence Man KR sets a precedent as Amazon Prime Video’s maiden original K-drama, with Park Min-young in the lead role. According to Higround, the production company, this collaboration is a notable achievement for Park and a milestone in K-content history, showcasing her global appeal.
The series is the actor’s next project after the success of Marry My Husband in 2024, a fantasy rom-com revenge drama based on the popular webtoon of the same name. In Marry My Husband, Park played Kang Ji-won, a cancer patient who travels back in time to seek revenge after being murdered by her husband and best friend. The show became one of our 10 Best K-Dramas of 2024.
Park Min-young is also known for her iconic roles in hit dramas like Sungkyunkwan Scandal (2010), City Hunter (2011), Healer (2014-2015), Remember (2015-2016), What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim (2018), Her Private Life (2019), and Forecasting Love and Weather (2022).
Expected to premiere this year, the release date for the new drama is yet to be confirmed.
