The Hindu festival, Navratri, is celebrated to worship Goddess Durga. It is observed for nine days, once in Chaitra month (March/April) and again in the month of Ashvin (September-October). The upcoming Navratri is called Shardiya Navratri. It will be observed from October 3 to October 12.
In these nine days, the Hindu devotees keep fast and worship Goddess Durga idols to receive her blessings for a healthy and prosperous life. The celebration also includes stage decorations, recitals of the legend Goddess Durga’s heroics and chanting of the scriptures of Hinduism. According to religious belief, during the days of Navratri, Goddess Durga fulfils the wishes of those who worship her during these nine days.
Buying certain things during Shardiya Navratri is considered auspicious for the Hindu devotees. Goddess Durga is said to be pleased with these things and showers her blessings on her devotees. Astrologer Pandit Kalki Ram of Ayodhya asks the Hindu devotees to adopt these measures to please Goddess Durga.

It is considered very auspicious to bring a silver coin home during Navratri. It is considered to be a form of Goddess Lakshmi. Worshipping this coin during the nine days of Navratri brings prosperity to the house and leaves no money shortage.

Navratri is considered the most auspicious time for bringing the Tulsi plant home. The Hindu devotees can start worshipping from Navratri days. It is believed that those who worship Goddess Durga at Navratri are said to be blessed by Lord Vishnu as well.
