With an eye on making music business contracts in India more streamlined, global contract platform Songpact has now launched in India. The company originally announced its India plans in July this year.
Songpact–which has so far launched in the U.K., South Africa and Australia since starting in January 2025–is available in India through tiered subscription plans. From free models to with pay-as-you-go credits, to paid plans start at ₹1,999 per month, where users regularly receive a bundle of discounted credits that accumulate over time.
The company is co-founded by Nick Weaser and Indian entertainment lawyer Priyanka Khimani, who also serves as strategic advisor.
Explaining how Songpact works, Khimani says in a statement, “The idea was to make the experience of creating contracts as friendly and intuitive as possible. Instead of endless mark-ups of Word documents, users answer clear, straightforward questions in-platform about the commercial terms, with easy-to-follow explainers along the way to create and negotiate a draft contract in minutes.”
Among India’s most well-known legal reps, Khimani emphasizes that she has always “endeavored to make legal assistance and guidance available to all types of creators, across different stages of their careers and economic strata.”
Songpact CEO Weaser adds in his statement, “Throughout the world, the music contract process has remained exactly the same for decades. We’re changing that. Songpact isn’t just about contracts. It’s about empowering creators with access, knowledge, confidence, and a sense of fairness. It levels the playing field.”
While signing up for Songpact and drafting a contract, the platform claims to create a “robust, plain-English contract” based on terms agreed upon between parties entering into the agreement. These terms are then e-signed and securely stored on the platform, available 24/7.
Weaser adds, “The contracting process is archaic and expensive, often forcing creators to choose between paying heavily, risking a handshake deal, or worse, skipping the paperwork entirely. Songpact removes that barrier and makes professional music contracts accessible to everyone.”
“India is a diverse and large country, and technology is one of our biggest assets when it comes to serving the community at scale. Songpact coming to India will be an affordable, pocket-friendly solution that’ll enable artists and their teams to create, negotiate and manage their everyday contracts.”
