The Mangala Gauri Vrat is also called Sri Mangala Gowri Vratham.
Along with worshipping Mahadev, offerings are also made to honour him.
The holy month of Saawan for Hindus began on July 22 and ends on August 19. The month of Saawan is dedicated to Lord Shiva, also known as Mahadev. Along with worshipping Mahadev, offerings are also made to honour him. According to religious beliefs, every day of the month of Saawan is considered auspicious for worshipping Mahadev.
There is a tradition of worshipping Goddess Gauri (avatar of Goddess Parvati) every Tuesday of this month. While Mahadev is worshipped on Mondays in the month of Sawan, Mangala Gauri Vrat is observed every Tuesday. This fast is observed for unbroken marital happiness, progeny, protection of children and fulfilment of wishes. Worshipping Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati on this day is of great benefit. The Drik Panchang website states, “Devotees take Sankalp to either fast during the Shravana month or to fast for sixteen weeks starting from the Shravana month.”
The Mangala Gauri Vrat is also known as Sri Mangala Gowri Vratham in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and the rest of South India.
The Mangla Gauri Vrat is very special for married women. It is believed that this fast brings happiness in married life. Unmarried girls also observe this fast to get their desired husbands.
