Kauvery Hospital, Vadapalani, launched the Kauvery-SAC (Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy Center), a facility aimed at redefining joint care in Chennai. The centre offers advanced minimally invasive procedures along with cartilage regenerative therapy to preserve joint health, particularly in younger individuals.
Arthroscopy is performed through keyhole incisions using 3D cameras and specialised instruments. Globally, more than five million procedures are conducted annually, offering patients up to 50 per cent faster recovery compared to open surgeries. However, in India, awareness remains limited, with the procedure often associated only with athletes. The new centre seeks to expand its reach, offering treatment for sports injuries, degenerative conditions and routine joint pain.
“We are not just offering treatment, but building an ecosystem around recovery,” said Ravi Sankar Kirubanandan, senior consultant, Orthopaedics. “Arthroscopy allows faster rehabilitation, enabling patients to walk within six hours. It benefits not just athletes, but also elderly individuals and homemakers with chronic joint issues.”
Aravindan Selvaraj, executive director and co-founder, Kauvery Group of Hospitals, noted that the initiative is part of creating true centres of excellence. “Joint problems limit not just mobility, but also independence and livelihood. The centre ensures comprehensive care with world-class technology and structured rehabilitation,” he said.
The launch was inaugurated by cricketer Sai Kishore, who emphasised the need for accessible sports medicine beyond professional athletes.
