Artificial intelligence (AI) has made significant strides in healthcare, enhancing patient care and quality of life by reducing errors, improving efficiency, and ensuring better outcomes through quick access to relevant information.

Generative AI has shown promise by generating medical images, assisting drug design, and aiding documentation. It assists medical professionals with quick access to reliable information for patient consultations, academic discussions, or professional development. GenAI can now also perform data summarisation by extracting key points from research papers and clinical guidelines. AI helps doctors in content generation, as they often have to present at seminars and conferences.

From diagnostics to data crunching in hospital management, the scope in which AI will change the lives of doctors is boundless. Many repetitive mechanical tasks in healthcare can now be automated effectively. Generative AI can hold conversations for patient care education. For instance, it can guide patients on their dosage of insulin, its storage, and more. The tedious task of getting insurance papers approved can also be accelerated. AI will help medical practitioners with documenting patient visits, which is essential but time-consuming.

These are only a few examples of how AI will reshape healthcare. Recognising the growing reliance on AI, medical institutions and organisations are offering training programs to help doctors maximise the potential of tools like ChatGPT. Doctors, especially those in their 50s and 60s who may not be tech-savvy, are increasingly taking crash courses to learn how to use these tools effectively. It raises the question of how AI can support healthcare workers and reshape their careers.
