On Oct. 15, K-pop girl group TWICE created history, becoming the first Korean female unit to perform at the iconic Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.
Clad in all-pink ensembles, the group performed smash hits like “Strategy,” “THIS IS FOR” as the VS angels strutted down the pink carpet. Four members, Nayeon, Momo, Tzuyu, and Jihyo, represented the original nine-member group, singing alongside Missy Elliot, Madison Beer & Karol G. A milestone moment for the K-pop industry, TWICE’s debut came after Blackpink member Lisa’s stint in 2024, who was the first K-pop artist to perform at the 2024 edition of the same show. The show also featured an array of standout models, including WNBA player Reese and pregnant Jasmine Tookes, alongside Bella Hadid, Ashley Graham, and Adriana Lima, to name a few.
However, their performance received a mixed bag of criticism. Fans called out the member Tyuzu for her supposedly weak vocals, while other casual viewers stated that the performance distracted the models. This snowballed into a widespread discussion on social media.
Following the slew of backlash, member Tyuzu took to Bubble, a Korean social media messaging platform, to express her side of the story and extend a formal apology to her fans. She attributed her sickness as the reason behind the mediocre vocals: “Before coming to New York, I practiced well with my vocal coach, but after arriving in New York, my throat started getting worse and worse… During rehearsal, I could still make sounds, but it got much worse during the main performance, and my throat was completely hoarse, so I couldn’t make any sound at all.”
Overall, this marked a landmark moment for the record-breaking girl group, who previously made waves by becoming the first K-pop girl group to grace the Lollapalooza mainstage in Chicago on Aug. 2, 2025, where they “sealed the Honmoon” by singing songs like “Takedown” and “Golden” from K-pop Demon Hunters.
