Dia Mirza recently addressed the controversy of terrorists using aliases in Anubhav Sinha‘s series ‘IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack’. The actress, who portrays a journalist in the crime-thriller-drama series, responded to criticism directed at the use of aliases such as ‘Bhola’ and ‘Shankar.’
In an interview with Galatta Plus, Dia said that since the show is fact-based, anyone who has questions can check the information.Dia responded to the differing viewpoints and criticism on the internet by saying, “I think what matters is the intention. I don’t think the intention of the show is to cause any disharmony. That’s the most important thing. And that’s our truth. The second thing is that I think everything that is being questioned is verifiable, and factual. How do you debate that?”
When Dia’s co-star Vijay Varma who joined her in the interview mentioned how the media supported the show, she remarked, “Because they can verify the information.”
In ‘IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack’, Dia portrays Shalini, also known as Sha Chandra, the Editor of India Headlines. The show is based on the actual events of 1999 when five men hijacked Indian Airlines aircraft IC 814 shortly after it took off from Kathmandu. The aircraft made three landings: in Amritsar, Lahore, and Dubai, where 27 people were released in return for fuel. After that, the jet was flown to Kandahar, where there was a week-long standoff.
The show also features Vijay Varma, Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapur, Arvind Swamy, Manoj Pahwa, Patralekha Paul, Kumud Mishra, Aditya Srivastava, Amrita Puri, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Pooja Gor, Kanwaljit Singh, Yashpal Sharma, Sushant Singh, Rajiv Thakur and others in pivotal roles.
