Kim Yoo-jung stars in Dear X, a K-drama based on the popular thriller webtoon by Vanziun, with a creative team that includes writer Choi Ja-won and co-directors Lee Eung-bok and Park So-hyun.
Dear X marks Kim Yoo-jung’s next project, following her notable roles in the fantasy romantic comedy My Demon (2023-2024) opposite Song Kang and the comedy mystery series Chicken Nugget (2024) alongside Ryu Seung-ryong and Ahn Jae-hong.
The source material follows an actress who’s got everything—name, fame, beauty, awards, and a fiancé. But beneath the surface, it’s a different story. Abruptly, when the news blows her cover, her seemingly perfect life comes crashing down.
The live-action adaptation follows celebrated actress Baek A-Jin (Kim Yoo-jung), who has learnt to hide her emotions and strategically navigate the people around her after a traumatic childhood marked by domestic violence. Her life is also entangled with two men: Yoon Jun-seo (Kim Young-dae), who’s been devoted to her since childhood, and Kim Jae-oh (Kim Do-hoon), a kindred spirit who shares her troubled past and finds a sense of purpose through her. As A-jin’s past comes to light, her mask begins to slowly slip away, and things take a dark turn.
The drama’s cast is rounded out by Lee Yul-eum as Rena, a popular actress with a crush on Jun-seo, and Hwang In-youp as Heo In-gang, an idol-turned-actor who’s struggling to cope with the pressures of fame before a chance encounter with A-jin gives him a sense of direction.
Dear X is a suspenseful melodrama that pores over the complexities of lived experiences, relationships, and the secrets that can tear them apart. Its layered characters add to its intense plot and plot twists.
The series is expected to release this year, with an official announcement of the release date still pending.
