A pulmonologist residing in Kukatpally in Hyderabad has tested positive for COVID-19, confirmed Medchal-Malkajgiri District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) C. Uma Gowri.
According to the DMHO, the doctor had been under home isolation for the past five days, strictly adhering to COVID protocols. The doctor is currently asymptomatic and has fully recovered. Contact tracing has been completed, and no symptoms have been reported among his family members or other close contacts. Medical authorities continue to monitor all individuals who were in contact with the patient, she said.
Dr. Uma Gowri urged the public not to panic, assuring that the Health department is fully prepared to handle the situation. “The situation is completely under control, and our medical teams are equipped to respond swiftly to any developments,” she said.
The DMHO advised citizens to remain vigilant and report any symptoms such as fever or respiratory distress to the Health department without delay. People experiencing COVID-like symptoms are encouraged to visit the nearest primary health centre (PHC), urban primary health centre (UPHC), Basti Dawakhana, or Palle Dawakhana for medical attention, she said.
Gandhi Hospital sets up 50-bed ward
A 30-bed isolation facility at the Gandhi Hospital is being expanded to a 50-bed facility. The hospital was the nodal centre for COVID-19 treatment in Telangana during the pandemic. “We started with 30 beds and have now been directed to expand it to 50. This will be ready by Saturday,” Hospital Superintendent Raj Kumari said. She added that the ward will be equipped with acute care facilities, including ventilator-supported beds.
