After months of speculation regarding which actor would succeed Daniel Craig as James Bond, it seems the wait may be over.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson, the 33-year-old British hunk, known for his roles in ‘Nocturnal Animals’, ‘Kick-Ass’, and ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’, has reportedly been formally offered the opportunity to play the iconic secret agent – 007.
While Taylor-Johnson has yet to officially accept the role, sources tell The Sun, “Bond is Aaron’s job, should he wish to accept it”. The makers have reportedly put their offer on the table and are waiting for the actor to get back. A little-known fact is that the actor was tipped to play the role after he was spotted doing ‘screen tests’ for the film last year.
If Aaron does accept, he will be the 8th actor to portray Bond since the franchise’s inception in 1962. While Sean Connery was the first to play the role, the others include, David Niven, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig.
Despite previous speculation favouring actors like Idris Elba, a recent poll indicated that Taylor-Johnson emerged as the public’s top choice. Elba, aged 51 and known for his role in ‘Luther’, had ruled himself out of contention to focus on other projects.
In addition to the Bond offer, Taylor-Johnson has a slate of exciting projects lined up. He will be seen on-screen next in the film ‘The Fall Guy’ alongside Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, as well as the highly anticipated remake of ‘Nosferatu’, directed by Robert Eggers. He is also set to portray the titular role in ‘Kraven the Hunter’, the fifth film in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe.
With two BAFTA nominations and a Golden Globe win under his belt, Taylor-Johnson’s potential portrayal of James Bond is sure to generate excitement among fans and critics alike.
