Jr NTR starrer ‘Devara: Part 1’ hit the screens on Friday, September 27. The movie is Jr NTR’s first big solo release in Telugu in six years and fans were damn excited. Of course, it’s not really a solo hero film as it also stars Saif Ali Khan, however, his last release was ‘RRR’ where both Ram Charan and him had equal heroic parts to play. Thus, ‘Devara’ was expected to have a solid opening which is did! The film released in five languages – Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada.
The film had a grand release across cinemas in India and it made a net total of Rs 77 crore at the domestic market, in all languages, according to Sacnilk. The movie is hitting the right chord and it was expected, more so in the Telugu and Tamil markets. However, even the Hindi version of the movie has done quite well and exceeded expectations. ‘Devara’ in Hindi had a business of around Rs 7 crore on Friday which is great as many Hindi fims have also not that opening in recent times. This is possibly due to Jr NTR’s growing popularity in the northern parts of the country, post ‘RRR’.
The Hindi business of ‘Devara’ was also a crucial thing to see, in order to look at Jr NTR’s future prospects in Hindi cinema. The actor will be seen as a baddie in ‘WAR 2‘ which stars Hrithik Roshan and Kiara Advani as well. This will be NTR’s first big appearance in a Hindi movie.
Meanwhile, the business of ‘Devara: Part 1’ is expected to grow over the weekend through positive word of mouth. The film has crossed the Rs 100 crore mark on Day 1 at the worldwide box office.
