Hema Malini is called the ‘dream girl’ and for all the true reasons! She continues to remain an ethereal beauty till date and is also known to be very honest about her opinions and her life. Malini who is known for a number of iconic movies and characters – right from ‘Sholay’ to ‘Trishul’, ‘Seeta Aur Geeta’ among many others, has also been a part of some really unconventional movies.For instance, ‘Rihaee‘ was a film which was way ahead of its times and was quite bold for that era, when it released in 1988.
The film dealt with the issue of inequality between men and women and how rules are different for both of them. It also deals with female sexuality as he depicts the life of women in villages when their husbands go to cities to work for long periods of time and they long for them. In an interview, Hema Malini had spoken about the movie and why she chose such a bold subject at that point in time. The actress had said during a chat with Bharathi S Pradhaan, “It was by Aruna Raje. And she was there to direct it and I also liked the story. I wanted to do something different that time – like, rural women. Bada achha laga. The story was very sweet and interesting but very bold. Har role karna chahiye na? As an actor, I think, you should be able to take up anything as a challenge for yourself.”
She was further asked about how Naseeruddin Shah was scared and nervous to get close to her during an intimate scene in the movie. Reacting to it, she laughed and said, “Achha hai na, itna darr lage toh.” The actress further added that the making of the film was very nice and it was beautifully done.
‘Rihaee’ also starred Vinod Khanna, Neena Gupta and Reema Lagoo, apart from Hema Malini and Naseeruddin Shah.
